Medici Print Titled The Boy In Red After Antique Oil Portrait Painting By Élisabeth Louise Vigée Le Brun Of Joseph François Pierre De Sahuget D’amarzit D’espagnac (1776-1820)
ORIGINAL MEDICI PRINT
Titled ' The Boy in Red ' After the original oil portrait painted in 1786 by French artist Madame Élisabeth Vigée-Lebrun.
-
A SHORT HISTORY OF MEDICI
The Medici Society Ltd was founded in 1908 by Philip Lee Warner and Eustace Gurney. The company's original aim was to bring artists' work to the appreciation of a wider public through technically cutting edge high-end colour reproductions, with subjects chosen for their artistic value, beauty or sentiment sold "for the lowest price commercially possible".
-
The name Medici was chosen as a homage to the great Florentine family who did so much to encourage art in the Italian Renaissance. The profile of Lorenzo de' Medici (1449 - 1492), known as Lorenzo the Magnificent, was incorporated into the trade mark.
-

ABOUT SITTER
Joseph François Pierre de Sahuget d’Amarzit d’Espagnac (1776-1820) was the only son of Joseph-François-Pierre-Charles d’Espagnac (1750-1817), a sub-lieutenant of the King’s household troops. The sitter emigrated in 1791 and died in Italy in 1820.
-
This portrait, which displays the bright colouring and monochrome background of Vigée Le Brun’s work in the 1780s, was listed by the artist among her portraits for 1786 in her autobiography. It was exhibited at the Paris Salon the following year. Like most of her portraits of individual children, it was closely modelled on her portraits of adults and did not explore her period's interest in the specific development of adolescents.

Medici Society Print C1916 After Pieter De Hooch Flemish Interior Scene
ORIGINAL MEDICI PRINT [ Preserved Perfectly Under Glass , Sealed with Identification Labels Verso.
Titled ' Interior,With A Women Peeling Apples ' After the original oil portrait painting executed in 1663 by Pieter de Hooch.
-
A SHORT HISTORY OF MEDICI
-
ABOUT ARTIST
Pieter de Hooch (Dutch: ['pit?r d? ?o?x], also spelled "Hoogh" or "Hooghe"; 20 December 1629 (baptized) – 24 March 1684 (buried)) was a Dutch Golden Age painter famous for his genre works of quiet domestic scenes with an open doorway. He was a contemporary of Jan Vermeer in the Delft Guild of St. Luke, with whom his work shares themes and style.
-
De Hooch was born in Rotterdam to Hendrick Hendricksz de Hooch, a bricklayer, and Annetge Pieters, a midwife. He was the eldest of five children and outlived all of his siblings. Little is known of his early life and most archival evidence suggests he worked in Rotterdam, Delft, and Amsterdam. According to his first biographer Arnold Houbraken, he studied art in Haarlem under the landscape painter Nicolaes Berchem at the same time as Jacob Ochtervelt and was known for his "kamergezichten" or "room-views" with ladies and gentlemen in conversation.
-
De Hooch was married in Delft in 1654 to Jannetje van der Burch, by whom he fathered seven children. While in Delft, de Hooch is also believed to have learned from the painters Carel Fabritius and Nicolaes Maes, who were early members of the Delft School. He became a member of the painters' guild of Saint Luke in 1655 (two years after Vermeer)
-
The early work of de Hooch was mostly composed of scenes of soldiers and peasants in stables and taverns in the manner of Adriaen van Ostade, though he used these to develop great skill in light, color, and perspective rather than to explore an interest in the subject matter.
-
After starting his family in the mid-1650s, he switched his focus to domestic scenes. These were possibly of his own family, though his works of well-to-do women breastfeeding and caring for children could also indicate that he had attended his mother on her rounds as a midwife.
-
His work showed astute observation of the mundane details of everyday life while also functioning as well-ordered morality tales. These paintings often exhibited a sophisticated and delicate treatment of light similar to those of Vermeer, who lived in Delft at the same time as de Hooch.

MARILYN MONROE FRAMED ADVERTISEMENT ON BOARD C1950 24INS X 36 INS
Biography

Marilyn Monroe personified Hollywood glamour with an unparalleled glow and energy that enamored the world. Although she was an alluring beauty with voluptuous curves and a generous pout, Marilyn was more than a '50s sex goddess. Her apparent vulnerability and innocence, in combination with an innate sensuality, has endeared her to the global consciousness. She dominated the age of movie stars to become, without question, the most famous woman of the 20th Century.

She was born Norma Jeane Mortenson on June 1, 1926 in Los Angeles, California, to Gladys Baker. As the identity of her father is undetermined, she was later baptized Norma Jeane Baker. Gladys had been a film cutter at RKO studios, but psychological problems prevented her from keeping the job and she was eventually committed to a mental institution.

Norma Jeane spent most of her childhood in foster homes and orphanages until 1937, when she moved in with family friend Grace McKee Goddard. Unfortunately, when Grace's husband was transferred to the East Coast in 1942, the couple couldn't afford to take 16-year-old Norma Jeane with them. Norma Jeane had two options: return to the orphanage or get married.

On June 19, 1942 she wed her 21-year-old neighbor Jimmy Dougherty, whom she had been dating for six months. "She was a sweet, generous and religious girl," Jimmy said. "She liked to be cuddled." By all accounts Norma Jeane loved Jimmy, and they were happy together until he joined the Merchant Marines and was sent to the South Pacific in 1944.

PABLO PICASSO EARLY PRINT OF LOVER DORA MAAR IN 1960 ORIGINAL FRAME 21 X 27 INCHES
ABOUT PABLO PICASSO

Pablo Picasso was born in Malaga, Spain on October 25, 1881.
By the age of 15 he was already technically skilled in drawing and painting.

Picasso's highly original style continuously evolved throughout his long career, expanding the definition of what art could be.

In addition to painting, he would explore sculpture, ceramics and other art forms, and become one of the most influential artists of the 1900s.

Picasso died on April 8, 1973 at his home, Notre-Dame-de-Vie in Mougin, France. He was buried on April 10 at his chateau Vauvenagues, 170 kilometers from Mougin.

ABOUT DORA MAAR (Person in this early print)

COPY & PASTE LINK BELOW INTO BROWSER

http://www.sapergalleries.com/PicassoBloch299Detail.html

Dora Maar (November 22, 1907 – July 16, 1997) was a French photographer, poet and painter of Croatian descent, best known for being a lover and muse of Pablo Picasso.

Before meeting Picasso, Maar was already famous as a photographer. She also painted. She met Picasso in January 1936 on the terrace of the Café les Deux Magots in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, Paris, when she was 29 years old and he 54.

Picasso was attracted by her beauty and self-mutilation (she cut her fingers and the table playing "the knife game"; he got her bloody gloves and exhibited them on a shelf in his apartment). She spoke Spanish fluently, so Picasso was even more fascinated. Their relationship lasted nearly nine years.

Maar became the rival of Picasso's blonde mistress, Marie-Thérèse Walter, who had a newborn daughter with Picasso, named Maya. Picasso often painted beautiful, sad Dora, who suffered because she was sterile, and called her his "private muse."

She made herself better known in the art world with her photographs of the successive stages of the completion of Guernica, which Picasso painted in his workshop on the rue des Grands Augustins, and other photographic portraits of Picasso. Together, she and Picasso studied printing with Man Ray.

Maar kept his paintings for herself until her death in 1997.
They were souvenirs of her extraordinary love affair, which made her famous forever.

In Paris, still occupied by the Germans, Picasso left to her a drawing from 1915 as a goodbye gift in April 1944; it represents Max Jacob, his close friend who had just died in the transit camp of Drancy after his arrest by the Nazis.
He also left to her some still lifes and a house at Ménerbes in Provence.

The vase bears a copy of the artists signature, and
depicts a beautiful array of large sunflowers in full bloom, with the odd one wilting over for water.
