Fine 19thc Landscape Oil Painting of Mountains

We are offering this early morning, misty, mountainous landscape, with the figure of a woman carrying a basket, walking along a path by the artist T. Wood, who has signed the painting in the left hand corner. It appears to be a summers day, with the trees in full leaf and the gorse bushes flowering.

The artist did not exhibit his work in major exhibitions, as we can find no trace of him in our reference books, although there have been some auctiion sales of his paintings, the most notable of which being a pair which reached $1,700 in 2006. He seems to have specialised in landscapes, although we found one marine.

The painting retains its original 4" ornate gilt frame and slip and will be supplied wired and ready to hang.

CONDITION
The surface is clean and there is virtually no craquelure and no paint loss. The frame is in very good condition with only one repair and wear consistent with age.
