'British Frigate Success attacking Genereux Feb. 18 1800 winging her and delaying her until Nelson arrived

This engagement took place during the blockade of Malta, where the French garrison were running out of supplies.

A convoy was organised from Toulon, but the British, under the overall command of Admiral Nelson from his base at Palermo, were blockading the Island.

The French were sighted on 18th February 1800 and HMS Success. which was a 32 gun frigate of the British Navy launched in 1781, sighted the much larger Genereux and engaged her.

Although badly damaged herself, Success succeeded in damaging the Genereux and mortally wounding the commander Contre-amiral Perree, delaying the Genereux until the arrival of the remaining British ships.
