This is a wonderful pastel portrait presented on canvas and under glass, showing head and shoulders depicting a Captain in The Rifle Brigade. We have identified his regiment from the cap badge. It is believed the portrait is of a WW1 Officer, as he is wearing the ribbon of the Queen Victoria Diamond Jubilee medal
This medal was awarded in 1897 to soldiers, sailors and airmen who participated in events for the Jubilee. Unfortunately, we do not know the name of the sitter or artist, needless to say its of remarkable quality.
The Rifle Brigade raised 28 battlions during WWI and saw action on the Western Front and Italy, winning 52 battle honours including 10 Victoria Crosses and numerous other decorations.
