A Huge Scale 19th Century Oil Portrait Painting On Canvas of A Distinguished Gentleman wearing ceremonial dress.

John L.Scott ( b.1815-d.1888 ) Aged 73 Standing Three Quarter Length & Set Within A Carved Gilt Wooden Frame.

He is depicted full length in this fine oil portrait, looking confidently towards the observer and portrays a dominant figure wearing ceremonial dress, his hand resting on a pile of books, denoting a man of intellectual ability and knowledge. The dress uniform is a scarlet red tunic and black tailored trousers with a bicorne feathered hat held in his right hand.

His tunic is dressed with a double row of silver embossed buttons and displays silver braided epaulettes over his shoulders denoting senior rank.

He looks a notable character of importance fashioning his distinct side burns and grey moustache, both a distinguishing sign of a military man, proud of his appearance and upholding the standards expected from wearing a uniform whilst serving in public office.
