Description

We are offering this lovely pair of oils which we are attributing to Alfred de Breanski 1852-1928, who has signed the paintings in the right and left lower corners respectively. The reason that we are attributing them is because Alfred Senior mostly signed Alfred de Breanski but occasionally A. de Breanski. His son Alfred Fontville de Breanski either signed A. Fontville de Breanski, A de Breanski Jr. or sometimes A. Fontville, so we are discounting him. His other son Arthur A. W. de Breanski, signed Arthur de Breanski, but occasionally used A. de Breanski. Although his speciality was river scenes, he did occasionally paint Welsh or Highland scenes, sometimes with cattle.
-
The sunset scene has a boatman on the waters of the loch and there is mist rolling down the mountains. The morning scene has a blue sky with puffy white clouds and the sun is catching the edges of the mountains and the edge of the still loch waters.

ALFRED DE BREANSKI 1852-1928, was the father of the illustrious de Breanski family. His brother was Gustave de Breanski, his sister Julia and his sons were Arthur A. W. de Breanski and Alfred Fontville de Breanski. All were artists and their work is often confused, as the subjects are very similar, although Gustave was primarily a painter of marine subjects. Alfred Senior exhibited at the Royal Academy 1872-90 (24 paintings) and at Suffolk Street, as well as the Royal Institute, the Glasgow Institute, the Walker Art Gallery, the Royal Hibernian Academy and the Royal Cambrian Academy as well as many others. He lived in Cookham, Berkshire, then Greenwich and by 1889 had moved to London. The family was originally French as both Alfred's father Leopold and his mother were French.

He was a very prolific artist and there are many hundreds of auction results from artnet.com, artprice.com, findartinfo.com etc. Further information and examples of his work may be found on google.
-
The paintings are framed in ornate, swept 2" gilt frame and will be supplied wired and ready to hang.
