DESCRIPTION
A SOUGHT AFTER PORTRAIT AT A VERY REALISTIC PRICE.
This is a beautifully painted oil portrait on canvas by the artist SYDNEY WALES WHITE, who has signed the painting in the lower left hand corner.
The portrait by repute is considered to be of Lady Randolph Churchill,a very attractive lady in her middle years, depicted wearing a cream evening dress, with her hair swept up and wide, in Edwardian style.

She has a long string of pearls around her neck and a black ribbon choker to match the belt and ribbon trim on the sleeves of her dress. She has a red rose corsage at her waist.
ABOUT LADY RANDOLPH CHURCHILL
Lady Randolph Churchill, born Jan 1854 – Died 29 June 1921), born Jeanette Jerome, was the American-born English wife of Lord Randolph Churchill and the mother of British Prime Minister Winston Churchill.
Jeanette Jerome was born in the Cobble Hill section of Brooklyn in 1854,the second of three daughters of financier, sportsman, and speculator Leonard Jerome and his wife Clarissa and was raised in Brooklyn.
Lady Randolph was a talented amateur pianist, tutored as a girl by Stephen Heller, a friend of Chopin.
She was married for the first time on 15 April 1874, aged 20, at the British Embassy in Paris, to Lord Randolph Churchill, the third son of John Winston Spencer-Churchill, 7th Duke of Marlborough and Lady Frances Anne Emily Vane.
The Churchills had two sons. Winston (1874–1965), the future prime minister, was born less than eight months after the marriage.
Lord Randolph died in 1895, aged 45. On 28 July 1900, Jennie married George Cornwallis-West (1874–1951), a captain in the Scots Guards who was the same age as her elder son, Winston.

DEATH
In May 1921,Jennie slipped while coming down a friend's staircase wearing new high-heeled shoes, breaking her ankle. Gangrene set in, and her left leg was amputated above the knee. She later died at her home in London on 29 June, following a haemorrhage of an artery in her thigh (resulting from the amputation). At just 67 she was buried in the Churchill family plot at St Martin's Church, Bladon, Oxfordshire, next to her first husband.
FRAME.
The portrait has been newly framed in an ornate 3 1/2" pale gilt frame with grey/green background, which complements the painting very well.
A label is attached verso from Parks Southsea Depositories, Portsmouth dated 17.10.47 (storage date)under the name of Randolph. Also written in chalk on the old frame stretcher is 'Guv's Mother'.
The subject clearly bears resemblance to Lady Randolph Churchill,(Winston Churchill's Mother)as also seen in the attached early photographs of her in younger years.
