We are delighted to offer for sale an historical large military oil on canvas portrait of Army Captain William Marley, B. Company, 5th Battalion, Durham Light Infantry, who sadly died in Arras France on 23rd April 1917 aged just 30 in the prime of his life for his king and country.

HISTORY
Captain Marley is buried in the Wancourt British Cemetary Plot VA3.
His father was Thomas William Marley JP and Chairman of the Brancepeth Coal Company, who lived at Marton Grove, Abbey Road, Darlington.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Frank Stanley Ogilvie was born Dec.1858 in North Tyneside & died 19th Dec 1937 in Letchworth, Herts.
He painted quite a lot of portraits of the local worthies, which are in the National Collection.
He was the elder brother of Frederick Dove Ogilvie 1850-1921.

CONDITION
Canvas in perfect condition after restoration.
FRAME
A recent replacement with a quality antique style wooden gilt frame.
