Description
A chance to acquire a rare historic oil on canvas painting, depicting a whaling scene off of Baffin Island,which liesbetween Greenland and the Canadian mainland.
The main vessel in the picture is an American three mask vessel named "Alice" as detailed in the written title painted on the bottom margin of the picture.
There are large icebergs seen in the distance,as well as a second whaling ship,and a small lifeboat full of seamen closing in for the kill on a medium sized whale.
Excellent detail has been achieved in the painting and the condition is very good,having been recently cleaned.
The plaster and gilt gesso frame is original and has had just afew tiny areas retouched.
