Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (29 September 1758 – 21 October 1805) was a British sea captain in the Royal Navy.
Born at the rectory of the village of Burnham Thorpe, Norfolk.
Nelson commanded the British fleet during the Napoleonic Wars, fighting the French and the Spanish. Nelson was blind in one eye after he had been wounded in battle.
During the Battle of Trafalgar, his greatest victory, he was killed by a French sniper.

The second sitter is CAPTAIN HUGH PALLISER 1723-1796
From 1764 to 1766, when he was a Captain, Palliser was Governor of Newfoundland, where James Cook, who had served under him earlier, was employed charting the coast. He was subsequently Comptroller of the Navy and then second-in-command to Augustus Keppel at the Battle of Ushant in 1778.
